MALFUNCTION OF VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR [LO]
(DTC CODE P0500 / DIAGNOSIS MONITOR CODE 21)

1. Set the starter key to the "LOCK" position and connect the signal check harness. Start the engine.
2. Prepare for measuring voltage between the terminals V14 and V40.

   ECU terminal No.	Description of terminal
   V14	Vehicle speed
   V40	GND

    

3. Start running a vehicle. Keep a vehicle speed at 10 km/h and measure voltage.

   

   Make sure of safety and gradually start off.

   Standard value: 10 V or more ↔ 1.5 V or less

NO Go to [2] Measuring resistance between terminals.	YES Fault in engine ECU and/or ECU connectors

1. Set the starter key to the "LOCK" position and disconnect the signal check harness connectors from the ECU.
2. Disconnect the pulse matcher connector.
3. Measure resistance between the terminal V14 and the 2nd terminal of the pulse modulator connector (vehicle harness side).
   

   
   

   Standard value: 1 Ω or less

NO Disconnection of harness in vehicle speed sensor system	YES Proceed to [3] For measuring continuity between terminals

 

1. Connect the signal check harness connectors to the ECU and inspect resistance between the terminal V14 and the body GND.

   Standard value: ∞ Ω

 

NO Short-circuit in vehicle speed sensor harness GND	YES Fault in vehicle speed sensor Proceed with single unit inspection of the vehicle speed sensor. Replace the ECU if the same DTC code P0500, P0501 / diagnosis monitor code 21 is indicated again after deletion of past malfunctions and test run.

1. Confirm the DTC P0500 is inactive

   • Start the engine and let it idling condition.
   • Verify the DTC P0500 is inactive.

   

2. DTC Clear

   • Clear the DTC with Hino DX
   • Confirm the same DTC is not reoccurred

   

P0500 is reoccur: Return to first process Other DTC appear: Refer to concerned Trouble shooting
