3.1.1. Copying the archives into a folder on the local drive
The “ePER Maintenance tool” dialogue
box is displayed whenever it is possible to improve the running
of ePER by copying part or all of
the Catalogues files into a folder on the local drive. This
operation is strongly recommended for achieving acceptable
performance when consulting the Catalogues.
To start the copying of archives onto the local drive follow
this procedure: after having inserted the ePER
CDROM/DVD in the drive and being presented with the “ePER
Maintenance tool” dialogue box:
1)
Select a folder on the local
drive which will be used to store the archives
by clicking the “Change” button. If there is more
than one local drive (e.g.: C: and D:) choose
one which has enough free space to contain the
complete copy of the archives (about 1.5Gb for
the DVD version).
Note: The first time ePER
is run the folder “data” contained in the program’s
installation folder is suggested (e.g.: ” c:\Program
Files\ePER\data” ). If this is satisfactory it
is unnecessary to choose another folder.
Note: The folder used for the
local copy of the archives can be modified later.
If it is modified, archives copied to the previous
folder should be manually removed as they will
no longer be necessary.
2)
Select the type of copy: Minimal
or Full. In Minimal mode only some of the archives
are copied locally (those most frequently accessed)
while in Full mode all archives of the edition
of the CDROM/DVD are copied locally.
Next to the different modes the free space required
for the archives is indicated.
Note: If you run the Full copy of the
archives it will no longer be necessary to have
the CDROM/DVD disc in the drive when using ePER.
3)
Start the copy.
This operation may require many minutes, depending
upon these factors: PC’s processor type, speed
of the CDROM/DVD drive and speed of the local
drive.
